Hi,
I was wondering if I could get away with keeping some Africans in a 45g tank? I know people say 55g is usually the min, but I have a 125gph canister.

If so, any suggestions for specific types that will stay relatively small?

Thanks

Shell dwellers, lake Malwai mbuna,

One species,

125 gph, I like 7x flow,

It will get you started, the small juveniles, don't fight seriously until they are about 1.5 years old.

I only have mbuna, and some peacock hybrids, I started with a 29 gallon long.

I now have 3 tanks, of. 75 gallons, with 150 gallons of sump volume.

The yellow labs, Acei , are the calmest.

Some African cichlds are just evil, I activly watch for bullies.

The ones that try to attack my cats, though the glass. Get culled, I have raised 90% of my fish from fry, so the natural selection process is unique to my environment.

Even between siblings, their is a jerk, and a nice fish.

I have met a few, cichlid keepers, who loose all their fish in rapid succession.
Because the jerk was too pretty to cull.

Post the dimensions of your 45G tank please.

Saulosi would work and you could stock them pretty heavily, maybe 3m9f. Stuff like Rusty's, labs, and some cynotilapia could work but only work in a smaller group, 1m/5-6f.
