hey guys ive been thinking about trying to keep an octopus. i have nvr had one before and they seem very interesting to me. if anyone has had one please give me some tips on the proper way to keep them like tank setup tankmates etc. thanks

Hey, just wanted to tell you that octopus are best kept by themselves in a min of a 50 gallon tank. They also have a very short life span, i think some die as young as 2 years old. Also this post would get more replies in the invert section on here.

Never kept one personally, but I do know that they are amazing escape artists and many can fit through spaces you didn't think possible, so you almost need a sealed tank. Also they are extremely intelligent. I don't think many have kept them, but if they have I would love to hear what they had kept them in and the tips also.

Also if they r escaping on u use indoor outdoor carpeting to cover the holes they dont like the feeling and wont try to get threw it.

Generally they live 1 year in captivity. Very intelligent and fascinating little creatures.
If and when you get to he point of wanting to keep one, I suggest you get a Bimac (California 2 spot) or a Briareus (Florida) as these 2 are the more readily available as a generally tougher species or octo.

Min tank size would be IMO 75 with 200+ pound of live rock. Sand substrate as well.

They hide most the time. And use them for caves at night. But the bigger octos stay out more frequently. And the bigger the octo it seems the longer they survive in captivity. The o.merc will live for a yr but may breed for you. So u can keep them reproducing and keep them going on.
