Keeping/Breeding Crystal Red Shrimp

they like cooler temperatures as well. Typically soft water (gh/kh of 6) pH below 7, temp in high 60's to low 70's is best.
 
Okay, i'v never kept any myself, but i've seen (in the past) some Japanese guys who used what must have been easily 8inches of dirt with lots of plants and halide lights... now i know this is excessive, but his Crystal's looked stunning... since i think from what i could read (that was in english) they used Amazonia Shrimp Dirt or something like that incase thats of any use to you...
 
ada amazonia soil is often used as it reduces hardness and pH. This produces an ideal environment for hte CRS. 2" is more than enough depth (typically these are planted tanks as well). One thing to be aware of if you decide to go that route is that ada soil leeches ammonia for at least a month after setup. You need to age the tank to allow for this before adding inhabitants.
