So there are many species of freshwater crabs available and i was wondering if anyone had experience in keeping them fish.

I wouldn’t say there are many crabs that are safe with fish since the majority of them are too big and can kill them or are too small to be kept with fish. Big fish and normal crab equals seafood.
Thai micro crabs are about an inch long and best kept in a species tank or with shrimp.
Actually thank you for starting this thread as I had completely forgot about thai micro crabs and am now reworking the stocking of two 5 gallons to be species tanks for them.

I don't keep crabs but I keep crayfish with my fish in my 200g which I would think is similar. I originally bought one but that soon turned into 3 which turned into 6 which seems to be the max until they start fighting. For the most part they can't get to the fish but at night when the fish sit low they do occasionally nip one or two. I try to keep plenty of hidy holes for both the fish and the claws which seems to help but I still see some marks from time to time though. Also if a fish gets weak or sick the crayfish will get them pretty fast and if a fish dies or gets dragged into a hole it is very difficult to get the corpse out until it floats out naturally.

They do a fantastic job of cleaning the sand and gravel which I assume crabs would too but I'm not sure if I had to do it again I would. I say don't mix unless you can figure a way to make fish resting spots with no chance of the crabs getting to them. Especially with smaller fish. Losing a $20+ fish to stress or claws is not a fun thing to do

From personal expierience crabs/crayfish are not the best tank mates. Had a “reef safe” purple lobster in my reef. Lost multiple fish to that one and a brittle star. Back when I had crayfish in a native setup, I would find the odd dead fish with their stomach eaten away.

Crayfish were a terrific food source for the bass and gar though.

Do you have any more information on them like breeding behaviors?

Supposedly they’re quite similar to shrimp when it comes to breeding.

Supergeorge123, I was wondering the same thing. I tend to only keep things that can be bred in my tanks. That is how I have always made the hobby help pay it`s way and I want to continue that.

I forget what crayfish it is but there is a crayfish that clones itself, marbled crayfish maybe, you could make a bit of money off of those I’d assume.
