i went to the lfs and got some feeder shrimp for my turtle tank for pets. lol im a softy. but i wanted them to clean the left over blood worms that he cant get to. so i got a serving and a week or 2 later theres only like 2-3 left. he doesnt eat them because he can barely c them. and hes not fast enough. they live in amounst heaps of rocks so. how long can they live for and what conditions do i need to keep them?

I think as long as the tank is reasonably clean and oxygenated they'll be fine. Im not sure how long they'll live probably until they get big enough for him to see lol. What type of turtle?

his tank is after the fishy tank

Here in the US feeder shrimp are usually eastern ghost shrimp, Palaemonetes paludosus. I know there are Palaemonetes in Australia too, but I don't know if that's what you guys use. They can live several months at least and will breed in fresh water; they prefer still water and lots of hiding spots (heavily planted tanks are perfect). They're not picky about water conditions so long as its reasonably clean. They'll eat just about any fish food, as well as algae and detritus.

If you want them to breed be careful of the filtration; gentle flow and sponges over the intakes will help prevent loss of young shrimp.

you may be surprised your turtle just might be eating them. ive seen some extremely large fish just lay and wait till one comes right near it and then BAM!!! no more shrimp :)

they could also be jumping, as their prone to this. look around your tank for tiny little orangey tan colored things. when shrimp die and dry out, they turn color.

i have a few in my 10g and they do a great job of cleaning up food on the bottom. I have them in a 10g with a filter. Im sure your turtle might try to eat them though

it will eventually catch them, but enjoy them while they're there, just don't expect too much longevity

Thats turtle food soon, and when he gets bigger that pretty tank will probably look bare like my RES tank. He just move everything around. You'll have to get big drift and rocks and no plants, but then again its a different kind of turtle so you might have luck. IDK how big it gets either mine is around 10-12 in.
