it has happened twice already, once with my pleco and once with my channel cat...

i come downstairs and see the fish at the bottom of the in-tank overflow box (DIY).

can i put somthing inthere or on top that does not restrict flow?

maybe a piece of eggcrate or pick up some gutter guard from home-depot, the gutter guard will be the easiest and probably cheapest.

I used the plastic netting that's used for cross stitch it's available in craft stores or online very cheap.

i've used that too but kept getting stuff caugh in it and had to keep taking it out to clean it, works great as a pre filter for extremely mess fish.

the egg crate may work somehow, but they are jumping in from the top believe it or not. Ill try to put a diagram of the set up

Well the diagram thing is taking longer than expected to show you but i'll try and depict it...

the in-tank overflow box is a modified Lee's Large Specimine container 7x3.25x6 product #10524, which has three suction cups attatched to the back as to stay on the inside glass.

i have siphon tubes coming from that box to the external overflow

the top of the box is 1/4" from the water surface but the fish still seem to get in... the catfish is at 5" as well as the pleco but they would have to come out of the water to get over the lip...

any suggestions besides putting leashes on them haha

gutter guard, craft mesh, find a tupperware container about the right size and drill some holes, go to home-depot and get a piece of acrylic cut to size and drill some holes. thats all i can think of right now, if i can think of anything else i'll let u know.
