Has anyone kept two GATF together or a GATF and a Vitta together with maybe some ditter fish with any sucsess? And how fast do GATF usually grow.. Its does not seem to be a lot of information out there on this fish..

there is a sticky on this forum with a lot of good info. typically a pair of goliaths may not work, but im sure someone out there has pulled it off. i had a trio of juvy gatf together always fighting. I currently have 2 vittatus 1 forskalli in a 90 gal with about 20 ace cudas, fighting amongst vatf at first but the addition of more dithers the aggression slowed. also have 1 goliath 1 forskalli combo in a 210 gal mixed characin tank, suprisingly smaller fatf started shanking gatf in the beginning. no fighting between them in the last 2 months. If u are just gonna do a pair i would advise the gatf vatf combo, instead of 2 g or 2 vatfs.

So The GATF and Vatt would be the way to go instead two GATF's. I would also add either some bala sharks for dither fish, or is there any common fish you have in mind....

I had a 7-8" Goliath and 1 Vittatus around 6". Goliath did nothing but keep to himself. Vittatus was constantly throwing jabs. I later added 1 of 5 DOA's from a special order and again... Goliath was the chill tankmates.

Just my observation...
I think in small numbers of ATF, the best chance for a successful combo would be multiple goliaths. Their personality, swimming habits and aggressive feedings are so laid back that I would be able to sleep best with 2 goliaths in 1 tank. Now... This is at a Juvi age under 12" as it is said once they hit 14-15" the reason they are called "The Deamon Fish" is supposed to show. I would give it a few inches before that to see signs of this aggression.

As for growth on Goliaths, it's very slow. ATF's remind me of the feeding habits of "Ferrits". They eat just enough to still be lightning fast. If I was to compare a common growth species to ATF's growth, I would say along the lines of Clown Loaches or Datnoids (given current in tank, tank footprint, water change schedule, temp of tank n feedings all play a role on any fish growth).

All my opinion and experience :D

Last one, I had reccom someone about Bala Sharks n I was told by a member they did it b4 n it was not successful. ATF paid no mind to the Balas n went at it

I tried the Bala shark trick and it didn't do anything. I had 3 Bala sharks with 3 VATF and they never paid any attention to the Balas. I ended up having to separate the 3 with a plastic grid. The Balas were small enough to swim through the openings so could pick which side to stay on. Well when the ATF's got big enough one day since it couldn't pick on the other ATF it destroyed the Bala. Other than that when they were together the Balas didn't do a thing.

I had them in a 135 so maybe it wasn't big enough. When I finish my 670g and they have more room hopefully they won't fight so much.

So it seems that the Vatt are the really means ones at first. Wow I am in a pickle now. The Vatt, looks nicer with the stripes, and the Goliath are the true beast. Now I am not sure which one to get , without spending money and one end getting killed.
What would you guys do if you had to do it all over again????

Future tank size should be the easy answer for you... Or pick one n grow him out till he/she's 14"+ :D

Right now I have a 300 gallon, and looking to upgrade...

Then your good till they hit 12-15".
8 feet by 30 deep right? If so then I'd say your good for 2-3 years depending on the size you start with.

Also... You have to give them a good while till they start to show interest in the "keeper". Or, maybe it's once they get bigger they start to be more observant and less skittish :D
