Title says it all - does it work out? I would get a JD roughly the same size, if not a little smaller than my GT. Would you say their growth rate is about the same?

JDs grow faster then Saums. I've kept only female JDs with both male and female Gold Saums. Although I see that combination a lot - JD's and Saums that is. So as long as it's a big enough tank you won't have any issues. Speaking of, what size tank are you stocking for?

The GT is in my 75. They would be the only 3 fish in there. My GT is about 4" and my girlfriend's blood parrot is about 3-4"

I've had that combo many times, it has worked and not worked lol. I currently have an 8 inch jd and a 4 inch gt in my 100 gallon and as of right now they are ok. I've had the combo in a 75 gallon for years with no problem. My current jd is a little more grumpy. He has destroyed 2 gt's. but the older he is getting the more relaxed he is getting. I say try to keep it two males, and make sure they have enough room. Each fish will be different, I've had gt's that had to be alone. For the most part they are both laid back fish till the teenage years lol.

I have a 6-year-old female JD and it has lived with both female and male GTs. I say GTs plural because I seem to have bad luck with them, but never due to aggression.

I would make that note about GTs though if you haven't kept them before. In my experience they're surprisingly less durable than many other large SAs and CAs.

I have kept JD with GT many times and they are good match. Both JD and GT reach maximum size of about 10 inch, and are only mildly aggressive. Who will be the boss depends on individuals and age. I have JD bossed over GT as much as GT bossed over JD. Young JD and GT are more aggressive but will mellow down with age. JD are shy fish and can be skittish. GT are outgoing and never shy. So providing calming tankmates to JD is important. Male GT will develop a big hump with age. Male JD has hardly any hump. As suggested by the mouth shape, JD is more predactory than GT. Both fish came from and do well in hard water.

haha so far it still seems to be a toss up. thanks guys.
