Anyone here have any luck keeping artc in a comm? It's really boring keeping a artc and all she do is hide all day and comes out as soon as lights goes out. So I'm tired of looking at a blank tank so I put 8 7-8" Red Devils, 1 7" bullhead cat in during the day where the cat is hiding and the rds and bull can adjust in the tank. It seem to be fine when I check up on them all through the day. man o man, I woke up in the next morning and everyone was on the top corner of the tank. She killed 2 rds, had 1 half dead, I had to bring the bullhead to a lfs coz it won't survive if it stays. So I took the rest out of the tank and put them back in the 100 gal. This is frustrating, I had a aggressive cat but damn! Killing everything in sight is insane. Idk, I figure I can put more fish in so she'll get distracted and not just pick on one fish. But now the rest of them are fine. Back to normal. Do y'all have the same experience?

Rmkblades has had a manageable situation with his ARTC in comm. But he knows too its time to move it out.

see page 6 http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...tail-cat-a-monster.650099/page-6#post-7347788

The larger they get, the more aggressive they become, the larger the territory they will claim. I'd not expect anything to survive with a sexually mature ARTC of say 1.5'-2' in say 1000 gal. Might be tried in 5000-10,000 gal. Still an enormous gamble.

The craziest thing is I never seen her show any aggression towards anything??? I might have to stay up all night one time with lights off and watch her got to work. This one is really nasty, Im a believer now. I'm just gonna have an ugly tank divider in my nice 240. Hope she doesn't break through that or my aimara will be toast.

Tell us the sizes at which the change in behavior occurred. IME, up to ~6"-8", they may be an upstanding citizen of a tank, even a bit shy, hide a lot.

I have no idea, I purchase her from lfs at this size 15". It was from a trade in but I did realize in the lfs tank, all the tankmates were hiding somewhere hidden with lots of wounds on them. I heard she came in not too long ago. So I'm sure it would of kill all the tankmates if I didn't pull her out. I recently went back there and pick up a 6" blk devil cat and I saw the same tank that artc used to be in, her tankmates were swimming around being happy. I knew it was her that coz all this chaos.

I am confused. What does this mean then? Initially?

Then the initial calm period could be ascribed to the ARTC's newness and an adjustment period.

Once it got comfortable, it started tackling the next problem on its list of things that bothered it, namely, "all those stupid, irritating fish swimming around happily and mindlessly and not respecting my needs and my monster space..." :)

Yes, the striking difference between a 15" ARTC and 6" wyckii is expected.

grow that aimara to a similar size and that's a bet I wouldn't go for. Those 2 would be a solid match.

I guess I never realized it coz she never comes out her pot. Looks harmless. But I should of known when i seen her old tankmates in the lfs. I think aimara me are pretty aggressive but nothing close to artc. At least they can tolerate tankmates.
