would it be effective to keep lucky bamboo to suck up nitrates in my sump? i can buy a bunch at my dollar store. and what kind of light should i use for the plants?

I've never tried lucky bamboo, but I have pothos and peace lilly in my tank with an 18 w desk lamp, and it takes care of everything. I tried it because my tank was taking forever to cycle, and it even took care of ammonia. Just make sure you only submerge the part of the bamboo you're supposed to. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about the bamboo rotting if you submerge it past the crown? Not sure though.
