In the next week or so I'm going to be repainting my room. i currently have a 20gallon tank in my room. i was wonder what i should do with my tank (ie. covering it) so insure that my fish dont die for the dust. Thanks

Are you sanding, spraying?
A drop cloth will work if there isn't anything suspended in the air for long. Otherwise just move the tank to be safe since it's only a 20g.
If you have an air pump shut it off or filter it.

draining only halfway is asking for the tank to break. 10g is 83lbs, plus the tank itself and the substrate - almost hitting 100lbs. better to move all the fish into a bucket, drain the tank as much as possible, and then move it. don't risk losing the whole tank just to save 15 minutes of waiting for water to drain.
Just throw a plastic drop sheet over it ... available at most dollar stores... simple and effective...
