OH...IO
After losing one pup (too big for mom to deliver) I'm determined to do whatever I need to keep the surviving pup alive and well. This is my first litter of ray pups so advice from those with experience is appreciated. I moved her(I think) into a 55g that had some grow outs in it. The grow outs went into the big tank with the exception of the smallest tinfoil. I used water from the birthing tank and transferred it into the 55g. I haven't noticed any yolk sac so should I try to feed later today? Pup was born maybe 10:30pm yesterday. I'm going to head to the store to pick up some night crawlers. Thanks.

Stressed but I think she is ok. She buried herself in the sand and is just chilling. Amazing how big and beautiful she looked when I pulled her out of the water. I was hoping she would relax and let me help but she was pissed off!

I have never had a pup eat for the first day or 2. Usually around day 3 they will start taking food. BUt it does not hurt to try feeding. I like to start off with earthworms/nightcrawlers cut really small, so to not spoil them on blackworms. IF they dont take nightcrawlers after a week then i would break down and get black worms, but i have never had to before.

As long is the Pup tank is cycled and maintained then they should do fine. I would keep temp at around 80-82 and try feeding every day and removing the food they dont eat. Usually pups are born pretty fat and can go a while without eating and be fine.

Yeah she seems fairly fat now. The tank had only been up and running for maybe 5 weeks or so with the grow outs so hopefully it's decent. I plan on quite a few water changes.

Dont do too many waterchanges. I found that pups dont do too well with lare amounts of fresh water

feed frozen blood or black worms then soak pellets in the blood or black worms the sooner you get her eating pellets the faster she will grow and do well
i have been luckly most of my pups fed on pellets without the above from day one
