G'day

One of my supplies recently got in a small number of Payara. A fish I have always wanted to keep but never had the chance here in Aus. Everything I tend to read about them tells me they will die, they are no good etc etc. But I'm always up for a challenge. The fish that are available are still quite small at 2" so they will go into a 4'x18" grow out with my lungs. The tank already has alot of flow, the lungs don't seem to mind it one bit but I hope its enough for the payara. My 8x3 will be ready for them in a few weeks and I am planning on placing two large internal pumps down one end of the tank, by large they do 6200lph each.

What are everyones stories with these fish; the good? the bad?

cheers for any replies...

Alex

I have one it's about 12" and doing good as far as dieing off I don"t know much about that I see pics of people with 22" payara and they said there fish are doing good with nothing exta on the tank system.

I think scombs are the ones that everyone keeps refering to. The redtail Jeff has is a hardier species. They get larger and are way more aggressive. Much better fish to keep imho. The larger 22" ones he mentions are armatus. They are the Goliaths of payara. Much thicker and more aggressive/outgoing than all the above.
