There are many people one here that have Grass Pickerals.

Be aware they are jumpers and spook easily. The larger the tank the better. I had issues with larger ones bashing them selfs to death in a 125. Make sure you have good cover over your tank and what ever you use to transport it in. Here I find them in small creeks all over the place. If you go collecting make sure you have your fishing license and it is legal to collect them where you live.

If you are talking about grass or redfin pickerel.I wouldn't recommend any tank smaller than a 75 gallon. I also have found that keeping them with other fish helps keeping them from spooking as much. Lots of plants that reach the surface helps also.
Around here(Ohio) I find them in weedy ditches. I have heard of people catching them in grassy swamps or lakes on the east coast. Most likely they will only take live food. Have heard of some taking raw shrimp and some have got them to take pellets.

I believe in Connecticut it is legal to do that as long as it is of legal size. But best to check the state site. That being said pickerel that you would catch in CT get to be a good size. You would need a very large tank. A better bet is to look into a grass pickerel or redfin pickerel as they get to be about 12-14 inches as opposed to the 30 inches a chain pickerel would.

Why would you NOT want a pickerel??? They're so awesome looking!
