I have introduced a few plants to my 55gal setup that i picked up from petsmart. my question is; will the plants grow a better root system after being in the tank a while? the ones they came with are very sparse and it was difficult to keep them rooted in the bottom. if not, does anyone have any tricks or special rigging system i should try?

some plants like my blyxa japonica are very hard to keep planted, especially when they start sending runners. with the right conditions, all plants will grow a good root system. as gamer said, most of those plants are petsmart are crap and not truly aquatic. theyll die in a short while

I'm having the same problem. It's not that they don't stick though it's just that my Oscars always tear them out of the gravel while moving around.

I thought about using weights, like the ones you'd normally use for fishing. Would this work?

A lot plants I have came with a lead strip that can be very easily wrapped around the base of the plant. It keeps the various stalks together and weighs down the plant as well. Not sure if there is an actual name for it.
