Does anyone know of a battery powered or rechargable generator or something of the like that I can keep in the house in case of a power out?
In the past few years we have had many and I have fish that have to be kept warm...I can find tons of small gas powered generators...but nothing battery powered..
Any ideas would be awesome! ITs getting to that cold scary time of year again....
Thanks

I have a power inverter that I hook up to my car battery on the Saturn, and run an extension cord into the house.

You can also get a small gas powered camp style generator.

I used to use a couple pc ups's until I had an issue one stormy night, and the ups batteries were junk.
I waited for the power to come back on 'til the last possible moment to get to Lowes before they closed.
Glad I went to Lowes. Picked up a 1000 watt portable generator.
The thing runs the tank (including lights) and a couple house lamps for 4 hours on a tank of gas.
My situation has someone in the house pretty much all the time, so being gone to work is not an issue.
Power goes out for longer than 30 mins. Go out to the garage, start the generator, plug a cord into the garage wall (that is connected to a "special" receptacle in the basement),
Go back in and transfer the main tank plug from house power to the "special" receptacle,
and the tank comes back on line.

A generator is your best option. Anything involving batteries is only a short term solution, unless you invest in some BIG (truck sized) batteries. With a generator you have power as long as you have gas to fill it up again. If the power is off for a few hours due to maintainace or a single fault your fish usually survive fine, it's in a storm situation with multiple faults where it might be off for a day that you loose fish.

Just be carefull not to run the generator inside or in an attached garage / basement etc.
People get killed by carbon monoxide all the time :WHOA:. Make sure the unit is OUTSIDE your house in a well ventilated place.

Cheers
