hi I’m interested in keeping Pseudotropheus demasoni, I live in San Francisco, CA where the water from my tap is 9 to 9.5

Can these fish adjust to this high ph or will i need to adjust my water to keep these fish?

Any recommendations for fish I can keep in water if this range?

Thanks

From what I can gather the pH values in SF are typically 8.5-8.9, in which case I think you will be fine. Just keep in mind that free ammonia (NH3) is far more toxic at those levels, than at neutral pH. (7.0)

Thanks RD,

But the tap water here in SF is actually 9.1-9.5 so I’ll ask again if this range would also be ok?

Thanks

The highest pH I have personally kept African mbuna is 8.0-8.5, so I can't be 100% certain how demasoni would do at 9.1-9.5. Personally I would seek out a local SF based fish forum if possible, or ask at the local shops. Surely someone locally must know. Or set up a tank for Tangs, which come from higher pH waters.

Just realized this was posted in the General forum, you might have better luck asking in the African Rift Lake cichlid section.
