Hey guys, I have a 125gallon malawi tank with PFS for substrate. I have a wet/dry filter that is plenty for my tank but I get some waste sitting on the sand in between water changes (it is not that much, but enough to see). I was wondering if adding a canister filter would help to keep the waste from accumulating or if I need to get a powerhead? I would like the extra filtration (can't overfilter) but if it won't keep the waste from accumulating then I will go powerhead.

Thanks

i have several canisters on each tank and still get a small build up of dirt from the fish between wc's. a power head may work to stir it up a lil but you will prob still see some dirt accumulate

I have a 135 with 5 canisters. lol Yeah it's a little bit overkill, but i still get dirt on the bottom and in the corners. This has become my favorite new toy. Completely submersible and cost about 40 bucks. Eheim makes it. I use it on all my tanks. I feed ev eryone and then I give everyone a quick vac a few minutes later every day or so

Pop a koralia on the tank and point it at the dead spot that is accumulating the waste.

x2. All you need is a Koralia or 2 pointed in the right direction. I have a 125g with PFS and my sand stays spotless between water changes.

Well I got an aqueon 1650 today from my LFS. They were having a good sale and I got if for about $35. Thought it was a good deal, and with the savings I plan to add a canister filter pretty soon. Thanks for the help guys.

Also, the powerhead is doing a great job. After about an hour there is no more poop on the sand (or in the water) and after today I only plan to run it for an hour or two each day.

Thanks again.
