Hi all,

So last week I finally set up my 6x2 180 gal and visited my LFS to add some friends in there.

They had a single Kel x Mono juvie left, so I grabbed him and two small tiger oscars juvies to keep him company and I was told theyd grow at a similar rate.

However after getting home and having him in the tank 5 or 6 days he hardly comes out and I can never find him and when I so see him he looks super scared and darts away.

My question is do I leave him in there with two oscars and he'll settle in alright or am I best to get some more bass? I just don't wanna over populate the tank.

Any advice is all, regards, drew ?

The first question is whether or not your aquarium is fully cycled or not. Do you have a liquid test kit to test ammonia nitrite and nitrate?

It’s not un common for baby bass to be skittish. They do best in groups of odd numbers 3, and 5 and so on. Plenty of people keep O’s with Cichla so it shouldn’t be a problem. The 180 should be suitable for a year or two but the bass will need a larger Aquarium for long term.

What are you currently feeding him. I’ve always feed my baby’s blood worms and then transitioned them over to pellets. It’s best to try and get them on the pellets as soon as possible as it will only get harder the larger the fish grows. Never feed live as it will bring on a host of problems with it. Welcome to MFK.

I think you’re probably gonna have some problems with your cycle just setting up a tank last week. Whatever you have in there don’t add anymore fish and monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels with the api liquid test kit. Don’t leave left over food in there. Wait a few weeks while monitoring and you can slowly add a few more bass. They will be skittish at first in a new environment. I would buy some seachem prime and stability in the meantime. GL

Thanks for the advice guys, I've been using seachem prime and stability to the dosage on the back as recommended. The Oscars are fine and actively swimming around eating with zero problems, it's just the bass that's super skittish and really timid. When he's started he takes off and bashes into the glass and driftwood and i Just don't want him hurting himself
