I have 6 aquariums down stairs on the first floor of my house and would like to set up some more upstairs but I have never had a fully aquatic aquarium setup on the second floor that was more than 10 - 20 gallons but I want to get larger tanks and I don’t know how big I can go or rather I should build or buy the tank because if I buy the biggest I would go is a 75gl and if I build it will be at least 100gl? So I figured I needed to bounce the idea off you guys and see what would be the best choice ? Thank you!

Depends on the construction of your house. I have my 75 gallon in my room upstairs distributed over a large unit. Our floor has a concrete slab in so it's pretty strong, I don't know how the floors are built in the US.

Our floors are made of wood but they are very strong! My father had steel desk up there at one time and I don’t even know how he managed to get it up there; it had to weigh at least 600 - 700 lbs.

A full 75 gallon will probably weigh in the realm of 600lbs

Ask your Dad where would be the best area to place the aquariums. I'm quite sure your Dad may know how the hoist are layed under the flooring.

i mean as long as you spread the weight over as many joists as you can and are up against an exterior wall id say atleast a 75 should be fine, ive done it, over 90 i would start getting sketchy but thats me personally and i over worry

I should probably add extra legs to the stand when I build that; I figured six legs and base supports would do the trick so the weight will be more evenly distributed and I did some side research and will be placing the tank near an interior load bearing wall! My father he made the floors with two by sixes about 16 inches apart so the floor is pretty solid!

I would but unfortunately he passed away last year but I know where the floor joists are layed by the nailing pattern in the base flooring; I am in the process of redecorating! Plus my dad taught me how to find beams and joists and it seems that he put extra supports between the joists! That floor is pretty solid; he was a good contractor.?
