Does anyone have any information about the toxicity of organic materials such as, chicken manure compost around ponds. I am trying to find a solutions for taking care of grass and plant life around my pond, but at the same time keeping my koi healthy and safe.

fish emulsion is pretty safe. you can add it to water and then spray the lawn and plants near the edge of the pond. it is made from decaying fish and fish oil, so it will only harm things if you get too much in the pond and it starts raising ammonia levels. but if you are using it at a diluted rate, plus since it is a pond, it will probably not be enough to mess up the parameters of your pond

oh and be careful to make sure you water it in afterwards..... too much fish oil (or any oil for that matter) will burn the lawn. the oil intensifies the suns rays much like a magnifying glass does, and in turn burns the grass if it is applied without enough water.

Chicken manure is not toxic but if it comes in contact with pond water, your pond water develops euthropication (overgrowth of floating green algae) due to its high nutrient level. Local farms in my area use it to encourage green water for the tilapia, milkfish and walking catfish stocks served as food fish for human consumption but unless your pond has high oxygen levels, dead algae can use up all the oxygen and kill your fish. You could try the rabbit pellets or chicken manure. Just don't release chickens on your lawn. My lawn was uglier when the chickens were there with their constant grazing.

You can pretty much use any organic type ferts. around the pond. So long as it stays out of the pond, since it will feed nusiance algae.
