I have a 65 gallon that will soon be empty and I've decided it will be a Tanganyikan tank of some sort. I'm thinking Tropheus, but IDK if I want to dedicate the tank to a single species. I feel like I already know the answer to this, but is it possible to mix Tropheus with any lamps, neolamps, julis, etc in this size tank? Or is it possible to put a single Tropheus into a community of other cichlids, or would I just be asking for problems?

Short answer IMO would be no to all of the above. Depending on the dimensions of your 65, you may be able to keep a small group of tropheus by themselves. Trophs do best with petros, and gobies. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 5' long tank of some sort. 125 gal and up would be ideal

+1. Not sure of the footprint of your 65 (tall 55 maybe?), but I've got two types of trophs in a 75. That's sort of pushing it.

Unless your tank is 4'x18", I'd stick with one group.
