Hey, i have a 35 gallon tank with a couple of cichlids, a spotted catfish & an ornate bichir that is around 12 inches. I've been looking at getting a hieroglyphic turtle and letting it grow in my mates tank with a community set up until it's a bit bigger. Obviously i don't want it to get killed or kill my fish so any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks. (:

Here's you're first problem you're gonna get flamed so be prepared, im gonna flame you, you're tank is way to tiny for the stock you have now nevermind a turtle. The ornate should not be in a 35 there at all ever researched any of your fish, I'm sure almost none of those fish should be in there since im assuming the cichlids are bigger since they haven't been eaten? You should either get a larger tank asap or rehome the ornate. and loose some more fish since i dont really know what you're cichlids are since you didn't name them. You should research you're ornate they need a huge tank and grow huge. Well turtles shouldn't be mixed with fish at all. Except the fly river turtle. So advice research all you're fishes needs and requirements get a larger set up(like 100+ gallons) if you're wanting to keep that stock. and for a turtle it should have it's own tank and research him too so you know the size of tank he requires. Welcome to MFK and be prepared to take the "hate" from most of the people for having that set up. so please please research this is cruel, imagine you living in your closet for your entire life.

Im usually against the tank police but if you have to ask about keeping a turtle with fish in a 35 gallon tank then your not ready to keep turtles with fish. Unless you plan on some of your stock going in your 100+ gallon sump.

I thought That Would Happen :L i took the ornate from a friend as a favour & will hopefully be going soon anyways, my cichlids consist of one Oscar ( Yes I Know They Need At Least A 55 Gallon Tank But He's Still Pretty Small & I'm Growing Him Until He's Big Enough To Go In My Friends Tank ) 2 small Convicts & 1 Redhead. Apart from the convicts my tank consists of fish that friends needed to get rid of sharpish, idealy i only want one of the convicts and the rest can go once i've decided what fish i actually want.

If you just want the convicts get rid of eberything else and just have convicts in the 35g. (if you actually aren't a troll)
