I have a tank with all male rays, so far the agression only exist during feeding and even then it's a simple cupping trying to steal food from another ray.

OUt of all the males, two of them are matured, their claspers are fully extended and rolled.

I am about to add a matured female in the mix.

My question:

I know every ray is different but IN GENERAL, will two matured males fight for attention from the female ?

How will the matured males react towards the un-mature males ?

Other than separating (last resorts), anything else that I can do ?

Thanks in advance

stan

IME the mature males just hate eachother no matter what, there could be 4 females or no females at all in the tank they dont care. my males are always fighting

mature males dont even notice the nonmature males though

Are they fighting ? biting ? tearing disks ? or just occasional bickering ?

all of the above.

ive have been putting only one male at a time in my big tank, and the other 2 males are divided in another tank.

sometimes they are ok for a while, with just a little biting here and there. but eventually a fight breaks out and they get all messed up

im sure i would have better luck if they had more space...

i am thinking that it all depends on the species and the individual..
Right now i have a mature hystrix male with a mature mototo male and have not even acknowledged each other.
I also had my Leo which he was maturing at the time and geting close with my male motoro and did not notice any problems... I seem to have problems with individual rays more that anything.

I do agree with this as well...I have two tigrinus in the 10 feet tank, most says that they'll pick each other to death, but with 10 feet between them , there are plenty of territory to call their own. They literaally hang out on the opposite end of the tank....both have full 10-12" streamers..

I have 2 male motoro together, they are somethimes a little agressive to the girls, but no agressioen between them. I have even seen them both on 1 girl at the same time once.

I think it is more species related. You put black rays, flower, or castexi together and they will fight. Most other brown rays tend to leave each other alone. I had my mature aparicio and mantilla together for a while with no issues and they were in a 6 foot tank. Now my male jag, I do not trust him with any smaller rays male or female. He is just a manly man LOL

That's going to be a problem, out of 11 rays that I have (2 are en route), 9 are blacks :) I guess it's a good problem to have LOL
