Hey everyone, I need a bit of help.

We got three kelberi a little bit ago (see my husband's post here) and we're having a little issue. They will *only* eat bloodworms. At one point I had one of them eat a very tiny earthworm from outside (probably the smallest one I've ever seen lol) but that's the only other thing. We've tried giving them some live worms and they don't want those either.

What can we do to get them to eat something else? I know that with bigger fish you can go without feeding them until they will eat anything you give them, but we are worried about the risk they could die...we definitely don't want that!

Any help would be great! Thanks!

my advise to you is just keep feeding them bloosworms untill they gain a little bit of size. have you tried blackworms? i find them to be alot better then blood worms.... i personally never owned a cichla that liked to eat earthworms so those are a waist of time if you ask me, plus a member on here joey aka toungue did a study on diff foods and said that earthworms gave his cichla the worst growth... have you tried feeding them small feeders such as guppies or white clouds? very small feeders will usually entice them to feed. if they don't eat them right away, they will. i recommend keeping a bunch in there from the start and just let them feed as they will please.. you could always train them later.. they are just like the big weary bass in the wild, you can always catch them on something finesse.

sooo you have 2 options..

Thanks for the suggestions! dvs just went to the store to get some food for them (I'm expecting guppies though he didn't really say) and dog food :)

Get a shrimp, cut it small pieces, get a shishkebab stick and start wiggling little piece in front of their noses. Once they go readily for the taste all you have to do is dump the shrimp pieces in the tank.

Have you tried pellets, NLS (New life spectrum) growth formula?

Oh man he got some guppies and they are TEARING THEM UP!
It's insane...so cool.

Thanks for the help guys (I assume you're all guys heh)

Sweet, my tems only eat bloodworms and mysis shrimp right now, I don't want to get them on feeders. What you could do also is soak your frozen food in some Vita-Chem, it's from Boyd Enterprises and has a lot of the vitamins/minerals that fish need that they might not get if they're picky eaters...
