Posted this in the wrong thread-

Is there a way to tell apart a 4" kelberi from a non 24k one? What are the traits to look for?
I know once they gain an inch or 2 it becomes a bit more obvious.

Thanks!

24k, Bahia, spider, gold etc pretty much are farmie kelberi. Where did you get your little Kelberi from? What did the seller list it as? Wild caught kelberi are almost non existent any more.

Not really looking to ID my fish, more so looking to learn a bit more about this specific bass. Basically if the kelberi isnt wild caught they are certain to be bahia, spider ect?

Theres obvious differences in kels caught in other rivers. Not really referencing those.

Nothing really to learn... 24k kels are farmed in Taiwan and Indonesia sent to the us and other markets through out. Spiders are just yellow based with black speckling all over the sides where as Bahia resemble a mono/ocellaris look at young throughout the first year almost untill the the black blotches start to break apart and speckle and the anal fin starts to spangle. Takes almost 2.5-3 years for bahias patterns to fully develope. As cigars cigars has stated wild caught is almost non existent because of the numerous bans of importation out of Brazil. That being said here’s my wc Rio parana kelberi from Derek’s fish acquired recently so you can compare. Most kelberi look basic for almost the first year as they grow and develope slower than most bass.

Thanks for your input..Though Id have to agree with you'r statement about "nothing to learn". I'm sure many people will take something from your post.

So what i'm getting out of this - if it's not wild caught, it's more than likely captive bred bahia, spider ect.

There’s a regular farmed variety of kelberi that’s not Bahia or spider as well. Most captive kelberi are bred for more gold vs wilds having more black pattern mixed into the equation
