My LRS has a lovely Kenyan Sand Boa instock (the egyptian sub-species) which im really tempted by as they are very interesting and stay small, i was thinking about waiting untill i get a viv for my Carpet python and then using the carpets current viv for the sand boa but my dad reminded my that i could just use a RUB for it which is annoying as id love one but cant really afford one right now and im trying to save up for my carpets viv & furnishings.

So i thought id make a thread asking for general advice, is anybody on here keeping them? What are they like, are they good feeders? And any advice you think might help :). As how much do they usually sell for?

A very uninteresting snake to keep Bruce. Stays buried, hidden. You will tire of it.

True but they are small, tame, easy to feed and care for , a true beginner snake and a pleasure to own . I had a pair for over 3 years now and have never failed to be a pleasure. still have the male and a new female , would eat anything , live,f/t whatever , mice ,rats ,hamsters ect . not an action packed species but very interesting and don't require a lot of space .

I don't know about ugly ,they have there charm , and mine are norms , the albino and other morphs are rather stunning.

I love them. Would breed them if so many ppl didnt already, but Im not one to force a snake out of hiding. If you want a snake you will see come out more and show interest this is not it. Also its not like they move around all that much while holding them either, but I still love them. Tough call Boggy. Depends what your after. Something to learn fast is you can still enjoy all the different types of reptiles at shows or shops without owning them. When it comes to what you bring home, while not owning your own house, dont let it turn into a pet store, make a list of pros and cons of each animal you may want. Later you may want something different so if you got a sand boa, how would that merge with your next idea. Just be careful. It could live in a tub type enclosure but you dont want to dumb down caging for reptiles just so you can have more, unless your breeding.

I love my ksb he is the most fun snake I have owned... Obviously you know everything about them hiding and all that stuff but at the same time how often do you get to see a snake swim through the sand? It is all personal opinion really but most people are always shocked at how beautiful and tame my snake is when they see him. I think they are awesome snakes and I will for sure be getting more in the near future. Also watching them eat is largely entertaining when they pop their noses out of the sand and grab thee mouse. I would totally recommend a ksb but like I said... To each his own. Btw I have had my snake for about year now so its not just like some new found glory.

Very well said.

Bruce, refrain from buying every snake you see. That will only turn you off of snakes.

Enjoy what you have. Enjoy what you plan for the future.

Please.
