Kenyi Cichlid breeding tips/advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alot of it is in male/female ratio. If you have 1m to every 3f. With your water params in check, you will get fry. Make little piles of rocks in your tank to let the fry retreat to. And done deal :)

Kenyi are super aggressive, I would try a ratio of 1m/as many females you can fit in the tank. Having enough females will prevent to beat the snow out of anyone who doesn't want to breed, he can just move on to the next female. You'll need a few extra tanks to remove holding females, and to keep fry at different sizes. You'll also need a place to get rid of fry, kenyi aren't really a favorite with alot of mbuna keepers since they're so aggressive.

Thank you all for the great advice i really appreciate it.
I only asked cause my female kenyi has paired with the yellow male and I wasn't sure what to do or should lol.
And I only know they paired up because they did the little mating dance and blue began dropping eggs in which the yellow male began fertilizing them..

If she's your only female in the tank, i would suggest removing her. That's what I had to do until I had 3 more females. And reintroduced her with them all at the same time, because the big male (Ike Turner) had her so torn up she was on her side with little stubs for fins... Because he wanted to mate and she couldn't physically.
