I know mixing Kenyi and Yellow Labs is considered a no no. I'm not huge into africans, I prefer my new worlds, but I do have one tank that contains yellow labs, and another that has just two kenyi, a male and female. Obviously the male is way to aggressive to go in with the labs, but I'm wondering what you guys think about one female kenyi with six yellow labs? There are other fish in the tank as well, but these I am not worrying about defending themselves. Just wondering if the labs would be okay with one female kenyi added. Its a 55. Thanks for your help guys (and gals)

I find that even females of an aggressive species can kill. IMO, if she can hold her own against the male kenyi, then she shouldn't be with the labs.

Thanks for the reply. i wouldn't necessarily say hold her own lol. She spends a lot of time hiding behind the filter and under plants or up in the top corner. He chases her otherwise. But the main reason I want to separate them is because the male kenyi has seemed to get more aggressive towards the other tankmates (non kenyi) ever since she was added to the tank

I would just take them back to the LFS. Kenyi are bad news.

males of most species tend to be more aggressive when a potential mate is present. he's probably going crazy trying to spread his genes lol. try the female kenyi in the tank and see how it works out. if the kenyi is terrorizing then get her out asap.
i'm trying out a kenyi in my tank right now. i've got a bunch of peacocks and haps with a yellow lab and afra. they're all about 4-5 inches and the kenyi is about .5 inch. so far so good lol
