My tank bottom glass has been rebuild. The glass maker use kerosene for cleaning the glass and the silicon aswell. I left it 4 days to cure the silicon. Do you think the kerosene toxicity is still there? I filled it with half water, clean the glass and stays it overnight. Is it safe to assume that the kerosene is gone?

Thanks

Also would like to add if adding activated carbon will remove any traces of kerosene in my tank? thanks

I think kerosene is oil based, so you would have to use something like Dawn dishsoap to remove it. Even if the kerosene is on the outside of the tank you will want to remove it.

Light a cigarette and put it in the tank :)

He should not have used kerosine to clean the silicone. Kerosine has oil in it. He should have used acetone or methylated spirits.

Use some dish washing detergent with water and wash the tank throughly. Give it a good scrub. Then just flush the tank out with fresh water once finished the above.

Ok when i used dish soap and give it a good scrub is it safe to assume the fish will survive? or should i still put activated carbon to make sure?

I always run some carbon on newly setup used tanks... it seems to be one of those situations where if you use carbon and it helps, great, if you use it and it doesn't help, no big deal, but if you don't use it and it could have helped, you're screwed.
