Hi does any one know what the key chemical
or a house hold product, which can detect chlorine,
with out the chrorine test kit... like what chemical
is in the test kit that reacts with chlorine when it is present.

Any one know of any house hold items, or objects, food, fruits,
what ever,,, will react in the prescence of chlorine?

im just curiouse what the key chemical or elements or watever they use in
test that cuase the reaction of color to change from this to that.

this reminds me of grade 12 chem =o_0=

lol =^_^=

It involves adding nitric acid dilute and then some form of Silver ions (maybe AgNO3?) which will cause a precipitate that you measure. This is quite difficult.

You will be better off buying dip strips, or a reagent test kit.

Just buy pool chlorine test tablets for about 5 cents each in packs of 20ish. You dont need the whole test kit, just buy the reagent since you dont need to know how much chlorine you have, you only want to know of there is any chlorine there or not.

Pink colour means chlorine is present. Clear means there is none. K-mart, pool shops etc sell them.

GREAT! YAY! THX!

Yes Yes i only want to know if there is chrorine present in it at all.. doesnt matter
how much chorine is in it. I know those test at pet shops can be pretty costly..
but 5 cents each in packs of 20 at K-mart SOUNDS GREAT!!

Hmm i dont think i have a K-mart where i live.. but i can try a pool shop or poo and jaccuzzi shop or something =D Thx Thx FishDAnce =D

AND Also CASSHARPER for explaining the chemical formula and stuff. I was also curoiouse about that... what u said really sounds complicated... but itz always got to know what cuese the reaction. Whether u knew this off ur head or researched this thank you for ur input =D

Thx you Both Alots lol =^___^=

no im actually asking about this becuase i wanted to find a less expensive chlorine detector when i recharge Purigen Media, after 24 hour bleaching and 4 hours Water/Prime Soulotion. im a lil paranoid with recharging and treating this media cuz i never used it before, so i jsut wanna double check the water. I dont wanna know how much chlorine is in it, just want to see if there are traces of chlorine, after i dechlorinize the Purigen Media lol. Just trying to find a less expensive alternative as an indicator basicall.. =^___^=

oh yes iam using prime to help remove chlorine.. even a lil drop wudnt hurt in some R/o Water just to be safe =^_^=

Chlorine is very unstable, hence the ammount of councils turning to Chloramine to bleach water, but if you have a couple of airstones chlorine will burn off in a few hours. If your using Prime at the suggested doze I dont think you have anything to worry about. For cheaper chlorine dozing look in the pond section of your garden centre. For some reason pond stuff tends to be much cheaper than aquarium stuff.

hmm cheaper pond sounds very nice nice =D and also about how u said about air stones... perhaps i should areate the prime/treating tupper ware or water i used to treat the Purigen after bleaching with an Airstone! that way perhaps it would help faster =^_^= Thx Thx DasArab =^_^=
