Hi all,

I have two key holes, make and female. I have had them since they were the size of my finger nail until now fill grown. They have always been together for two years. They are seriously inseparable. I had them originally in my 75, moved them to their own 29 gallon when they bred about 1 year ago, then about 3 months ago moved them to a new 38 gallon community tank.

In there are just some cories, a couple rainbows until they grow out for the 210 gallon, and few smaller fish they never bother.

So over the last week, the female has been legit chasing and being nasty to the male. Never seen anything like it with them. I’m not trying to BS, they were and always had been inseparable. Moving along the tank together, resting together, etc.

The female is eating way more then usual, or I should say being more aggressive when eating.. like eating a lot more, and chasing food down where before she used to be just lazy. Almost would hand feed them. She doesn’t bother any of the other fish.

I know fish change over time, but this behavior just seems so strange since they’ve been together and inseparable for over 2 years now.

Now I’m worried she’s going to stress the male and I really have no where to move him. If I put him in the 210 gallon, the blue acara will destroy him.

Any insight or similar experiences? I’m hoping it will pass.

I guess no one has a similar experience but I am somewhat relieved to report the aggression really only seems during feeding time, which is once a day and I guess until the female is full which can take an hour or so, as she picks around the pellets. It’s new behavior though, that’s for sure. After it calms down they end up back together in the same area with no issues.
