I'm not sure how this came to be, but he's missing an eye. :( Could be because I just totally rearranged the tank and there might be a few territory tiffs going on that I just haven't witnessed. I noticed him rolling near the surface from across the room and when I went to go see what was up with him, the other keyhole in the tank seemed to be picking at the eye, too. So gross.

But, it's all nasty with bits of tissue still hanging off. And he is having trouble righting himself, too. I've got him in one of those "convalescent homes" that hangs off the side of the tank, both to reduce the stress from constantly trying to gain equilibrium (seems to help when the fish is in a shallower container) and to keep him safe from his savage tankmates who seem hellbent on eating him alive. All in all, by my judgement, I'd say he's actually got a pretty decent shot of recovery, given I do the right thing.

All I've got on hand until tomorrow is some aquarium salt and a bit of slime coat/stress relief stuff. I figured the stress coat stuff certainly couldn't hurt so I dosed him.

Should I add the salt? What should I get to treat this? It's not infected (so far). I really can't do anything more for him until tomorrow (unless there's something easy I just haven't thought of), but I'll be able to pick up some meds in the morning. I can take a pick if anyone thinks it will be helpful.

Anyone? :( I feel so bad watching him in the little bin he's in.

I don't know how much this will help with any advice potentially given, but here's all the specs.

29 gallon tank
2 2.5" keyholes
1 2.5" sajica
4 het. rasboras
5 green cories
1 bristlenose pleco
tough/easy low-light plants (anubias, java fern, crypts)

Water tests today were as such:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 10-15 ppm
pH - 7.2-7.4

This sucks. I don't know what else to do in the meantime... would melafix and pimafix be the route to go when I head out for meds in the morning? As I mentioned earlier, it does not look infected. But I would like to prevent that.

The stress coat and salt at 1-2 teaspoons per gallon should be enough, if fungus or bacteria infection sets in you will need to treat for that. As long as there are no other serious injuries it should recover as a lost eye is a fairly common injury among fish.
