I just went to a LFS and asked some questions about the diets of knife fishes when the proprietor looked at me seriously in the eye and informed me that knife fishes were violent creatures. He was dead serious about it. And I just grinned gleefully at him.

Their aggression and predatory nature is what that draws me to them in the first place :)

personally I think it has to do with the individual fish. I have 3 clown knives and have never had any issues with them fighting, either amongst each other or with tank mates. Yet, I've heard horror stories about how people's clown knives pick on their tank mates. I think it's probably a 50/50 shot as to the temperment of them when you purchase one.

I've read many books that claim that Clown Knives are very aggressive and should be kept alone. From my experience, this is far from the truth. I've only kept a single CK with other fish, but I've seen many who have multiple CKs together at a fairly large size. I think that South American species may be more aggressive towards other knife fish, but I've never kept any before.

My CK is aggressive towards everything in my tank. After the first month,he started to be aggressive. Most of the time him and the arro go at it.I'm thinking of selling him.I think he learned to be aggressive because he grew up with a bunch of reddevils.
