Hi,
I was wondering what you guys thought of adding khuli loaches to a malawi tank? I'm not sure how they would fair in sand, but if they would be ok, would they not be useful for turning the sand/moving sand around, to prevent dead spots (since they bury under the substrate)??

Thanks

I wouldn't do it, they would get shredded or eaten, and probably not get too much food

CA is correct. Kuhlis are very docile and too timid to be housed with rather boisterous tankmates. Best keep the kuhlis in peaceful community setups.

Sand wouldn't be a problem-they love sand. The cichlids on the other hand would definitely be a problem. I have heard of people keeping various Botia with Africans, but I've never tried it myself. They wouldn't really bury themselves, but they still stir the sand some while feeding and just generally exploring

The pH of the tank and the fact that they would be slurped up like worms would be prohibitive.
