This has probably come up before but would it be safe to put a fish in a small pool that has never had chlorine or any other chemicals in it? or would the chemicals from the plastic leach out and kill my fish?

Sure is safe. Have 7 koi and 3 goldies in a 1000g intex pool that cost me $100. Only unsafe thing i can think of is maybe a super cheap inflatible kiddie pool having something toxic in the paint but then it'd be bad for kids too.

Only thing you have to worry more about is punctures in a smaller inflatible pools but you could beef up that by putting some plastic ground cover or tarp inside which would solve your worries about toxicity in the plastic of the pool.

I would be concerned about the depth because fish could jump out if spooked. Another concern would be the plastic over heating the water, due to direct sun light beating down on it.

yes that was another issue because the fish is an indo pacific tarpon and he already jumps quite a bit. i was thinking of makeing a netting around it similar to the netting cages on trampolines or would this hurt if he jumped into it?

Get the Intex. I know a lot of folks use the for QT for their koi. I'm pretty sure I read that Intex published something about their pools being fish safe.

Hey man I'm from Sarnia too. I don't have any input about the kiddie pools but I never see anyone from our small town on these forums.

How about that weather EH?

I'm planning on using a kiddie pool for a temporary outdoor pond this summer as well. I have a couple of koi , a red eared slider turtle and some pacu that are growing rapidly and need a pond. I was first thinking of using a 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank but those are at least $180. An intex pool has many advantages at half the price. the weather is still too cold. here in central NY, but in a month I should have a setup to show.

Yeah ive never met anyone here from this area either. Nice to meet you. And yes this weather is great!!! where do you get prices on intex pools cuz i didnt see any on the website. Also are you using the metal frame ones or the onnes with the inflatable ring at the top?
