my kigomas have been in my tank for about a week now, when i turn the light on they all hide and dont come out until i turn the light off and dont come near the tank. how long does it take for the shyness to go away or is this common. also i already have 4 in there about 2 to 3"s can i add 2 more from the same batch that i bought them from or is there gonna be any territorial issue?

i doubt there will be any territorial issues to contend with since frontosa are peaceful until they get to breeding ages.. then they can be aggresive with other males.. and it is common for frontosa to hide... they are shy types...you don't say how big the tank is.... but more frontosa together in a colony the better as long as there is alot of room...

right now its a 55g and they are small now also i heard that they grow slow so gonna keep them in there for awhile than get a 125. so they are shy always?

yes, mine are 14 inches and still scurry away and hide when i turn on the light...... have to be careful that they don't hurt themselves rushing into the caves.. sometimes two at a time..

fronts are notoriously shy. Give them some time. It may take a couple of months before they warm up to their new surroundings. Don't coddle them though. Approach the tank and do what you do without worrying about them. Eventually they will figure out that they wont get eaten and will be more sociable. Since they're young you could also consider adding some sort of dither fish to make them feel more safe. I had a group of petros that hid out constantly until I added a group of cyps, which swim in the water column. Immediately after the cyps were added the petros were out and about chasing each other like they should.

yeah i actually want to try to add some sort of yellow fish, any recomendations? also right now im feeding them the dainichi pellets with the frontosa on the package its sinking pellets, can you give them floating pellets?

i Labidochromis caeruleus {electric yellow labs} in with mine as they were growing up........ no do not give fronts floating pellets.. they take in too much air {gulp}{could cause bloat} from feeding on top.. only sinking pellets for fronts...

thanks man i actually wanted electric yellows but people say that they may nip at the fronts fins and i dont want that to happen.

they never nipped mine.. and yellows are very laid back and pretty.. occasionally just like anything you may encounter a personality in a fish that is different then the norm.. but all my yellows were super sweet..

thanks for the info, gonna pick up some yellows today very excited. also how much fronts and electrics you have in the tank?
