My Red Bahia had some marks around his face that weren't healing. So I took him out of his tank and put him in a 5 gallon bucket, added a couple of drops of Melafix and when I checked on him an hour later he was dead. I can only assume I put too much Melafix in the water. Very frustrating as he was a good six inches and a good looking fish. Another lesson learned, I guess.

Sorry to hear this!

Melafix and Pimafix both seem to deplete oxygen from the water, so you really need to have good water flow/aeration when using them.

Exactly. Personally I never use the crap.

Sorry to hear, melafix seems to be a 50/50 solution IMO, sometimes it works well and the fish makes a full recovery, other times dead fish

That's probably the last time I'll use it. I've put some in the tanks before and it has helped. In this case I tried it in the Bahia's tank and it didn't. That's when I decided to try it in the bucket. Bad, bad idea.

I doubt it was melafix that killed him as it is NEAR impossible to overdose w/ Melafix. in reality melafix doesn't really do anything and is more of a marketing gimmick. There could've been a lot of other things that kill him, 2 of the most obvious ones are oxygen depletion and temperature swing. Did the bucket have a air pump or some form of water movement? And how cold of an area was the bucket in?
