I once worked at a LFS where we had an annectens that was easily 32in.+. He was in a standard 200 7'x2'x3'wide, with maybe 6-12 HUGE oscars at any givin time we sold the oscars so there was always different numbers of fish period in the tank. this lungfish did FINE for maybe 3-4 months, I came into work one day and went to go mess with him and cut the lights on and everything I see the BIGGEST oscar in the tank laying in the bottom of the tank with 1 huge semi- circle bite out of his stomach

he continued to kill 1 to 2 oscars a night until I put in a couple plecos and a 20in. ABA ABA and after I added Mr. eye eater everything calmed down

until oscars started going blind but thats another fish another story

Great thread!

(Not sure if I want to believe the Janitor finger story in the other post though!!!)

My albino dolloi acts so funny - I got him a few months ago, and he is verrryyyyy still. Every time I look at him, he's in a different position, or place, I have seen him MOVE only twice, in those months. Too funny.

I knew it was time to move my African Lung (at the time about 14") to his own tank when a 6-7" Metraclima zebra (african cichlid) tried to steal a scrap of shrimp from him...and the lung snapped onto the zebra's head.

The bite removed a mouth shaped piece of the cichlid's head. The poor thing swam around for a couple of days on auto-pilot before expiring.

The same lung took disembowled a couple of other cichlids and took a chunk out of the dorsal / back of a big hap. He's in his own tank now...and I watch my fingers when I clean...

My new annectens is currently on a worm diet.(I actually tried shrimp but he didnt even finish the small one i gave.) The worms..he eats in a very weird fashion. Whilst still at the shop, I asked to see him eat. (He was given the same kind of worm i have at home for my bichirs) He gladly swallowed all of it. But he PEELS the ones I feed him at home. saw him do it. he grasps the worm's belly with his powerful jaws and then sucks in all the meat and juice. When he's exhausted that portion he moves on to another part til the worm is all but shell. Imagine shrimp peelings...that's what they look like after he's done.
