Every year the same robin decides to nest at our house. last year it was on the gutter drain and the year before it was next to the front door but this year she made her nest on the light outside the back door and she gotten very defensive. The pond is about 10 feet from the back door and my wife and i like to go outside with out 9 month old and watch the fish in the pond. The robin dive bombs us when we go out and she's actually hit me a few times. My wife wants me to destroy the nest so she will leave and is afraid to go in the back yard. I put a pond net just outside the door so my wife can swat at the bird if she gets too close. I hate to tear up her nest just because she's protective but its hard to avoid her being her nest is 2 feet from the door.
Is there any solutions to my problem without destroying the nest?

this happened to me before...it was under our deck and whenever I would walk under it the bird would attack me...But then it had its babys and the mom never did it again.

thats what i thought. she has 2 eggs in there now and i just hope they hatch and leave before my wife gets tires of it

I had no idea they did that? We have a think vine that grows on the back of our house from a lattice. There is a bird or birds that have nested there for the past probably 2 years and i think it might be a robin. Probably a little sparrow or something as it's never tried to peck my eyes out.

Birds get psycho during that time... I'm sure in a month she'll calm down ;)

Not much you can do... I mean if she is bold enough to attack a human, there is no stopping her maternal instincts. Tell your wife you guys are supporting urban wildlife; it's either the occasional divebomb and some nice chirping birds or concrete and the sound of traffic!

I got attacked by a kestrel 2 years ago... those birds are insane!

I know what you mean though... it is nothing short of amazing what a mother bird a fraction of our size will do. I have been chased by hissing partridge a few times, and all I could think was "you are supposed to be scared of ME".

Get a cat ;)
