Hi everyone. I just thought you guys might like to see a picture of my female striped killifish. For the past couple summers, me and my friends set out the minnow trap at the beach on long island sound (That's saltwater). We always end up catching these Killifish. I brought some home one day, dumped them into my freshwater tank, and they thrived. Scientific name is Fundulus majalis. The one in the picture is about 5", but we have caught them at 7" before.

are the males any colorful?

very nice. I think that the thought of u catching the fish makes up for its lack of color.

Very nice native. I love to collect my own.

Great pic and a great fish. I have actually caught these when they do have some color. When they are at the hight of their spawning season, mid-summer, the males will get a lemony color to the ventrum and the paired fins. This along with the very intense barring that's going on then makes them an almost attractive fish. Thanks again for sharing.

Here's the 2 killies I got a little bit ago at the local petsmart... there's also some comments about a different killie over on GD about a 10gal tank fish that eats guppies.

Those are golden wonder killis. I don't know if they are native but killis can be found all over the world.

When it gets warmer, I'm going to try to go to the salt marsh and get some brackish natives.
