killing asian arowanas???

Hi everyone.
I just heard that if an asian aro is seen in the US illegally it is confiscated and killed. My question is why? If the entire reason they're not allowed here is because they're endangered than why kill it? Why not give it to a zoo, aquarium, or well known personal aquarist? It just doesnt make sense to me, what do ya'll think

i know were all capable of keeping them but let people smuggle them into the country, take crappy care of them, then let the feds kill them. With one of us they could live for a long time
