So I bought Mopani driftwood from Petco, and sure enough after soaking it for weeks and then putting it in the tank it grew that nasty white fungus crap. I found a cure for it! My platies, gourami and guppies LOVE eating that nasty stuff!!!
I keep Polypterus, and had some feeder guppies in there, and noticed they would nibble on the fungus, and thought "Hmmm..." and proceeded to relocated my platies and gourami in to that tank and they have been going CRAZY on it! So far there have no casualties, thought I would share seeing as how a lot of people have freaked out about the fungus on the driftwood.

I freak out about any fungus! Try soaking it in a salt bath or adding a bit to the tank.
