i have 4 peices of live rock 3 of them are exellent! covered in purple algea looks really pretty but i have 1 peice thats only 5inch by 5inch its coverd in green algea and has at least 10 bristolworms living in there and about 20 anemones i just cannot kill!

so i've had enough! i want to kill it ....everything on it and use it under the live rock i have now as base....so how do i kill it?

i've read that i should put it in an old bucket with boiling water 50/50 and bleach..for a day, then use baking powder and hot water let it sit for 3 days then power wash it to get rid of all the dead things. then let it soak in hot water for a week.

is this a good idea? i just don't think should use bleach...

Boiling water, or boiling it in water, is the most effective method if have found to kill the rock at speed...Dont see any need to use bleach....when done, either wash very throughly or jet wash if you have one available...

i read that boiling it doesn't kill everything on it and they need to be almost poisioned to die. but if i don't need to use bleach, that has to be a good thing.

I've seen pretty much near useless live rock become a very good chunk of rock after simple boiling without the plague critters like aiptasia or majano ever returning...

As with many area's in this hobby, we each have our own way to do things...

ok i can try the boiling thing first i mean theres only a hermit crab in the tank so no harm in doing that. so i just pour boiling water onto it? or put it in an old pan and just leave it to boil? then scrub it and power wash it?

ahhh ok then, do i need to power wash it after? how long should i boil it?

haha i can imadgen my mums face now when i ask her if i can use her pan lol
