I have considered my mum to let me use my 3ft tank and tomorrow I am going down to Pet city (Local pet shop) to get some snake stuff, so I am gonna check out the fish.

I am considering on getting some Discus, Angels and a few Gudgeons, but I gotta do some more research and see what other fish I might like.
At first I wanted to get a a pair of Oscars, but a 3ft is to small for Oscars, so I gotta set my mind on something different. Theres quite a few fish I am thinking of.
I'll list them:

Convicts
A heap of Dwarf cichlids
A heap of Gudgeons and Rainbows
Angels
Discus
Scats
Barbs
Spangled perch
Mouth al'mighty
Coral trout
Aussie bass
Saratoga

Thats it for the moment.

If any body has any other ideas on what I can get, please let me know!!

Cheers,
Ned.

Hey Ned. These are the fish that I know alittle about that wouldn't work in your tank.

1. Scat, lives in brackish water, unless you're going to set up a brackish tank.
2. Saratoga, requires at least 180 gallon tank.
3. Discus, not sure if they're okay or not. I think they need a bigger tank but I'm not sure.

Good luck, The Doctor.

Hey mate, here are my thoughts - I'd pretty much rule out the Saratoga, unless you can move it to a larger tank, say at least a 6x2x2 as it grows. Coral Trout are marine, so won't work with the other fish listed, and they get real big. As previously mentioned, Scats are brackish to full marine but can be kept in freshwater while young. Spangled Perch are nasty and could only be kept with other super aggressive fish. I reckon you could do an Australian native biotope with the Mouth Almighty, larger Gudgeons like Purple Spots and some larger growing Rainbows. Or you could get a pair of Discus, some Dwarf Cichlids e.g. Blue Rams or Bolivian Butterflys and a few Tetras (Cardianls or Rummynose would work well). OR if you want get some Convicts, Tiger Barbs and maybe some catfish like Pictus.

Yeah I would be careful how you stock it, also its best to add a few fish at a time.. All those fish will create an enormous bio-load.

Thanks. I thought that the Saratoga would be to big. I mainly have my mind set on some Spangleds, maybe a pair, as they will both be agressive and will only get to 250mm max. I would like Aus bass, they don't have a max length, they grow to what amount you feed them.

So far it is a toss between a pair of Mouth al'mightys and a pair of Spangleds. But if I got Discus and Angels, I would get a pair of each, then eventually add on until I get 6 of each.

First I gotta get some gravel and good bacteria, then make sure my PH levels are all correct. I only really like Convicts as babies, but if they were cheap I'd consider getting them.

Thanks again guys!

Take photos of progress!!

I have set my mind on Spangled perch. Found a Aussie Native fish breeder here in brisbane that can get Spangleds, and they should be $2-$3 ea.

I'll get a photo of the tank, then tell you what else I'll be doing with it.

1. The tank.

2. The logs, yet to be in the tank.

3. One of my male Jungle, since he was hanging
out:)

I still need to purchase gravel and Good bacteria, which I should be able to do tomorrow and I will be using a Undergravel filter. Then I will be getting 12 plants of Ebay for decoration.

I am using a Totto 3ft internal filter, its a HT-3000 from memory, and I am also using a 100watt heat set to 28-30 degree's.

That tank is unable to support a group of discus permanently. It can work as a growout tank for 6 young discus especially as barebottom setup and you will eventually need to upgrade to a 75g to be able to house 6 discus. Minimum number recommended is 4 so a 55g could work for this group number. Anything lesser than 4 is inadvisable due to the possibility that one may be bullied constantly. Discus are cichlids after all and can behave differently. Same thing is applicable to angelfish.

Word of advice.I would put the tank on a stand where it is completely supported. Also, in the tank pic. Is that chipping in the glass at the bottom of the front panel? If so I would be very wary of it blowing out and causing a flood.
