You've never had a fish get sick that you've had to take out and isolate?Bud8Fan;2779447; said:I don't have any nets. The only reason I would have to get a fish out of the tank is if it was dead. Then I would use my Aqua Tongs or just reach in and grab it.

I'm not going to debate quarantine tanks but my methods over the years have worked for me. Basically healthy stock to begin with and religiously keep on top of water parameters. I am also entering the UV user community very soon, hopefully this month.
In almost 15 years of fish keeping I've lost 3 fish. 1 Red Tail Shark who wedged himself in between the glass and the heater and cooked himself (I no longer keep heaters in the tank), 1 Oscar who ate a glass thermometer (don't keep them in the tank anymore either), and 1 Severum who perished due to cold water when my heater controller malfunctioned (it registered normal temp but was actually 10+ degrees cooler than the set point). Ditched the Aqua Medic and bought a Ranco.
No wait I take that back, I've lost more than 3. I had about 24 Tiger Barbs last year when my current tank was set up, the Oscars have since eaten 19 of them.
Bottom line. I have never lost a fish to illness. I'm not going to say I never will though because anything is possible, it's probably just a matter of time. Should I encounter an ill fish in the future I would consider a quarantine tank depending on the fish and condition but I would most likely just put it down.
