???
My 12" Red Tail Catfish ate a baby red ear slider I had in my tank. The turtle was about 2" in diameter, and he just ate the entire thing. Is that harmful for the catfish? Now before I get flamed I did not mean for the catfish to eat him, i was given the turtles about a month ago and they were doing fine in the same tank as the catfish.

Bony plates in the catfishes mouth probably crushed up the shell real good. Expect a burning sensation when he goes poopie but otherwise, just act normal.

Just remember that any tank mate to an RTC is a possible dinner even if they have been tank mates for years. Sometimes even size doesnt stop an rtc.

lol that is so true.i guess rtcs dont care if it can fit out there ***hole as long as they can eat it

It's not about the size of the butt hole... just the size of their mouth... if it'll fit in ... it'll come out... one end or the other... If it can't digest the shell... it will just puke it up and look for something else to eat... Just make sure if that happens (not saying it will.. just IF) that you get that water chaged ASAP as they will polute their water with the acid from their bellies... it's really strong and can ruin the filters, the water, and kill them and every thing else in the tank... If you insist on owning the RTC remember that RTC's don't have tankmates... simply meals they are saving for later

:nilly: Yep.. Ask ZooYork about puking RTC's and dats RIP...

That is impressive. I hope you weren't too attached to the turt. If not, then I think it's kind of cool. Sorry for your loss if the turtle meant a lot to you. I imagine that in the wild they won't pass up baby turtles if given the opportunity.

its fine he probably crushed everything before he swallowed it

doubtfull... they rarly crush their food... they prefer to "eat first... worry about it later"

As I've been told and lead to believe they mostly use those Bone plates for pulling the food once it's already inside the mouth... anyone who has seen them "gulp" down food that hangs out of their mouth will know the action I'm talking about... and we all wonder... How are they getting all of that fish into that little belly... it's actually those plates that they are using to pull the food in... that Gulping manouver that they are doing just moves the plates which clamp into the "prey"... All quite interesting to see and then you can under stand how they are able to fold their food into thier bellies :D
