I'm trying to come up with reasonable gift ideas for my wife to get me and since my bookcase is full I'm thinking about the kindle. Primary focus will be ebooks, my s3 does everything else. Before I inform the wife that this is an item of interest I am hoping you can give me some feedback as to whether its enjoyable or not to read from a screen or is paper better? If the ebook is satisfactory, and the main function of this gizmo do you recommend the kindle(if so which model) or android tablet and download the kindle ap. Any feedback hased on firsthand experience will be greatly appreciated, if not this I'm going with a tattoo or rifle.

I've had a Kindle 2, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Fire. My mom's got the Kindle Keyboard. I've been around the block with Amazon, lol. Kindle 2 I freakin loved! Never would have parted with it had it not broken. (my bad...) Kindle touch - was fun, not as sturdy, I went through two of them in 6 months. Fire - Amazing! I love it. I love my Kindle. It truly is first and foremost, a book. Even with the Fire, the tablet features are second to the book features. Reading on the screen isn't an issue for me, esp if you get the paperwhite or whatever its called - The black and white ones. Its just like reading a book.

One thing I have noticed though, is that Ebooks aren't cheaper than print books anymore...Don't know why...They're freakin digital...But the digital books and print books are running neck and neck from what I could see, anyway. Don't know if that's just Amazon, as I don't have a Nook.

That said, though, I've really been wanting to take the plunge and go full tablet. But if you're looking for something that will be a book and only a book (which I honestly wish I'd never gotten away from), I say, hands down, get the Kindle Keyboard.

Hope I could help! :)

I have a kindle fire, and I also love it. I read alot, and reading on it isn't a issue for me but if it could be for you check out the black and white one also.

I have been a avid reader for nearly 40 years and have thousands of books. I have sworn, and sworn, that I would never go electronic, because I was of the belief that nothing compares to holding a book and feeling it.

I was wrong. I tried e-books and was hoked from the onset. The ability to have thousands of books in your devices as well as being able to have the book you want in 15 seconds is, in fact, a winner!

There is absolutely no difference, to me, between a paper book and an ebook. The reading joy is all there.

I have Kindle 3rd, Kindle DX and the IPAD ( with the Kindle App ).

Reading on the tablet is, without any margin for doubt, better that the Kindle. With the tablet, I leave my Kindles untouched for months....

Perhaps the Kindle Fire equals the Ipad ( or other tablets ) but it is not on sale in Europe....

Thanks for all the feedback. If this if I decide to go this route Im leaning towards to tablet.
