So, I've always had this thing for King Henlei and I could never afford the nicer quality ones as they were well above the price of a BD at times. And, now that I had some extra cash I couldn't even find any!
Well, after some patience and some great help from Mike (H2O) and Shawn L I was able to obtain a very nice pair. Yes, I know some people have had bad experiences with both of these guys, but I've dealt with both of them numerous times and have nothing but good things to say about both of them.
I got my female from Mike as he was selling off his breeding colonies several months ago. I got a steal when I purchased his quad (1:3), but the studly male that had knocked the girls up several times in the past did not make the shipment (stupid Delta airlines, but that's another story...). That said, I was on the hunt for a nice male (preferably a king).
Total henlei: 19" f, 23" king female, 26" female with cool TI spotting on head and eclipsing, and 19" male that did not make it.
Well, that king came about on Aquabid.com of all places. Shawn (Snakeskin) was selling a 16" male with some pretty hefty equipment, as you'll see in the pics below. I was a bit afraid that he wouldn't be able to handle my big girls, but I got a great deal from Shawn due to some past stuff that we worked out - ages ago, yet he still remembered. (Stand-up guy IMO). He even shipped me another smaller male hen that I bought from another member on here.
I will say that both Mike and Shawn have some crazy awesome shipping methods. Oxygen, barb sheaths, giant crates, super thick bags, etc etc...
Anyways, I got my males on Monday morning (yesterday), and BAM!!!! My new 16" well-equipped king male bred my 23" king female!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was chasing around my 19" female, but latched onto the king female. She swam around the tank with him hanging on in the water column and he worked his way underneath her. What. A. Champ.
