Hello my name is Jennifer, i need help. I been having my flowerhorn for almost 7 days. He is 3" and he has traveled a long way. From Thailand to California to Connecticut. I know that was a horrible travel and that he was very stress. But when i took him out of the box he barely had water in the bag, that i had to dump him in the tank. I know that was a risk. But he was very week and at first he was swimming around, but then a couple hours he stop swimming and started going on his side, I thought he was going to die, i was so scared. But then the next day he was doing so great and know he is fine. The only problem i have with him is that he gets scared of everything. I know that takes time for him to trust me and stop being afraid of me. But the only thing he wants to eat is bloodworm, he doesn't want to eat pellets, all he does is grab them and spits them out. I have try soaking them and still he doesn't want to eat them, he just wants bloodworms.

Give it some time and he'll adust. Spend more time in front of your tank so he'll get used to your presence.

When I got my RD from Thailand, he was the same way...refused to eat anything but BW. You'll need to starve him. It took mine exactly 1.5 days before he started eating pellets like a champ. Throw some pellets in the tank, if he doesn't eat, remove them after 15 minutes. Do the same thing at the next feeding and the next feeding. He will quickly learn that it's pellets or nothing.

Thank you, I'll try doing that.

Just keep trying pellets. If u want him to trust u sooner throw bloodworms in slowly and feed often throughout the day. He’ll associate you with food dropping in. But honestly if your water is good then time is 90% of the problem. Give him at least a month or two before I start worrying and changing things up.

Like u said he’s gone through a lot...soft waters in Thailand (most likely), hard water in California (very likely), and then whatever water conditions in conniticut. Also a dump into the tank (risky even if it seems logical) And small size. Mine’s 2-2.5 inches and I’ve had him since 0.5 and he’s only aggressive when hungry. After feeding he hides at the slightest movement.

Pellet Training should be easy. Like souzie said just starve him for a few days. Fh crack fairly easy. If you’re scared of him starving just start off at starving for 1 day. Then go to 2 days if it doesn’t work. Then try 3 days and so on and so forth. But honestly if he’s tasting the pellets then eventually he will eat them if hungry enough so I wouldn’t even worry about that

That's what i been doing feeding him bloodworms and he still afraid of me. But that's what I'm going to do starve him until he eats the pellets. It's been 1 day that he hasn't eaten, so lets see what happens. Hope he start eating them.

Same thing happened to me when I had a KK shipped from Vietnam to Cali. Then it got driven from Cali to Texas where then it was shipped to me in Ma. It was really hurting when I got it. It was just 3inch, thin and swimming awkwardly. PE Mysis got him back in form till he was ready to accept the hikari gold mini pellets I offered several days later. PE Mysis are soft, super healthy and very desirable to most fish this size that are hurting and hungry. I strongly recommend it if you can get your hands on it. It really can get a young weak fish going again and the young flowerhorns I've had really loved them. Some pet stores sell it by cubes or flatpacks. Or you can buy it online. Bloodworms really lack the nutrition he's gonna need so it's gd that you are quitting those. If he doesn't take your pellets in another couple days, I would try something else since he's only been eating bloodworms since you've had him and he's just a young fish that needs gd nutrition constantly at this size

I wouldn’t train him yet. He’s been through a lot. Feed him whatever he likes to eat until he looks healthy and then the training can begin

Need help again my 3" flowerhorn is sick with parasite. He is pooping white and it's always long and his stomach is big. He hasn't been eating and he is starting to breath heavy. I treated the tank with lavemisole HCI twice i have taken the carbon out. The first time i did it he really didn't poop, and the 3 days pass and he looked the same, but then he stared pooping more, but today i put more levamisole. Any suggestion what should I do. I heard about clear? But i don't know if I should try it because he is very tiny and I don't know if I can find that tube or something to fit his tiny mouth and i heard about Herbtana. Please help

I think you should open a new thread if you haven’t already. My experience is limited and success is even more limited in the parasite field. Goodluck I hope he makes it. And also pictures would really help when it comes to sick fish so any pictures of the fish and your concerns with the fish will help get a faster response.

I'll definitely do that
